Random Dozen October 7

Time for this week's edition of Random Dozen. I just argued with myself over the placement of that apostrophe. It's way too early for this. Anyway, play along and head on over to 2nd cup and link up. (wow--that rhymes)

1. On an average, how often do you splurge and buy something for yourself? Maybe a couple of times a year. But the thing is, it usually has to be on clearance, and then additional savings off. Last week I gained huge ground and bought a top that was just on sale, not clearance. I don’t have this problem when I buy things for others, just myself.

2. Are you more like Hall or Oates? Just kidding. Real question: What is the last creative project you began/finished? Feel free to post a pic of it. Creative? Like in crafts? Pshaw. I wrote a pretty good article for our church website. Does that count?

3. OK, Goldie Locks, do you consider your house too big, too little or juuuust right? I love my house. But it has 6 people and 3 bedrooms and 1600 sq feet. In the grand scheme of things, I am not complaining. I have more than 90% of the world. But the boys are stacked up like cordwood and for their sake, I wish it were a little bigger.

4. What is your favorite outdoor chore? Planting in the spring—loving the anticipation of what’s to come. Cleaning up beds and containers in the fall—huge sense of instant gratification. Least favorite? Weeding poky weeds or picking up dog flops.

5. If you knew that cigarette smoking was not bad for your health but would be a weight loss tool, would you use it? Why or why not? No No. No. Even if it weren’t bad for me—it stinks. It makes you look old before your time. Turns your teeth and fingers yellow. And not the pretty sunshiny kind. It stains your clothing and burns holes in your carseats. When you kiss someone, they might mistake that for licking an ashtray. It’s just flat out nasty habit. I’d rather be fat. (p.s. both my mom and dad died from health issues directly tied to smoking. I am a rabid anti-smoker. Hate. It.)

6. On a road trip, would you rather drive or ride? Ride. Not a big fan of the driving. But I do like shotgun. Backseats tend to make me queasy. And I love my "Hang-on-to-this-ineffective-handle-above-the-doorjamb-because-it will-save-me handle." We all know how much control you have over the vehicle hanging on to that.

7. What do you consider a trivial pursuit? Farmville. Mafia Wars.

8. This weekend, we downloaded the movie "Duplicity" with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Within 5 minutes, I was bored and annoyed, but I kept watching 5-10 minutes at a time hoping it would get better between small chores. I finally gave up and Jorge watched it alone, and then regretted wasting that time because he disliked it intensely, too. So ... how long do you watch a movie or read a book before giving up on it? Usually about 15-30 minutes. I’m embarrassed to say I watched ALL of “Open Water.” That has to be the among the worst movies ever.

9. Is there a song that you really love but are embarrassed to admit because it's not cool or it's racy or because it's by Hall and Oates? Pretty much every single song on The Best of Bread, Side A. Also, "Could it be Magic," by Barry Manilow…

10. On a scale of 1-10 (10 = extremely) how spontaneous are you? It depends. I like to think I’m an 8. But I’m pretty much rigid. I want my lists and my color coded binders. Probably a 3-4. Although, especially lately, I have had a hard time committing to people/things. I want my free time to be…free.

11. Are you a food and/or beverage snob? Not really. I like cheese that comes out of a can, hot dogs and willingly and enthusiastically buy processed stuff. And I don’t care for wine all that much. WAIT! I can’t stand powdered creamer in my coffee. Prefer half-n-half. Milk is #2 and those fake liquid creamers a distant 3rd.

12. Who/What are you trying to control in your life? (I hear people gulping and see them sweating in anticipation of how to answer this one.) I am ashamed that I try to control oh, so much of what God has handled. My kids. Ladies’ Bible study. Where should I exercise more control: watching what I eat and finances (things that affect only ME!)
Stand by for next week's version of "2 Truths and a Lie." It's sure to be a hit.

I think writing CERTAINLY counts as creative endeavors! :)

You just reminded me of a song I could put up... I'll have to go edit my answer now!

I enjoyed all your answers - weren't these great questions?!

Bread- Sweet Surrender. One of the songs on my " in the mood" CD. The only you tube I could find of it is this couple covering it, not Bread. But check out the ash tray full of cig buts in front of this lady. Yuk!

But I feel the need to post the like anyway because some of the younger bloggers did not know Hall and Oats. THey for sure are not going to know Bread! lol. We really need to turn them on to it. They will thank us. Right?

You have color coded binders? I am in awe!

Number 6 had me laughing.

Your answers to a number of questions made me smile -- I think we might be related :-)

My mom died of lung cancer. I was so happy (and proud!) when my son quit smoking this year. So, so happy.

I enjoy Barry, too. Actually I'm realizing that I EMBRACE elevator music in general. LOL

Have a great week!
The only time I buy something for myself is around my birthday. It's the only way I'll get anything. It's not that my husband doesn't want to get me something but I'm always telling him we have no money. But at Christmas he knows he's budgeted to spend a certain amount.

Hi. I haven't even read your post yet. I getting ready to now. Just wanted to ask you to come over to my post and play 2 Truths and a Lie. I've had 7 or 8 responses but only 1 played them all and 1 or 2 guessed at a few. I KNOW you will at least TRY...haha.

OK, NOW, I'm going to go read your post!

I really enjoy reading these.
First of all, let me say that I am looking forward to the next 2 Truths and a Lie. That is fun.

NOW...
1.I'm exactly the same way!
2. I'm probably more like Hall...opps...ANYWAY, EASY answer. Remember Pay It Forward? (cold shiver) That STILL gives me nightmares!
3. My house would be perfect if I didn't have so much wasted space. I need a good carpenter and interior decorator...and a little bit of motivation.
4. Yuck- We call it Poop Patrol.
5. After growing up with a crazy mom that never let a day go by without reminding me that I was either fat, getting fat, or going to get fat....I'd have to take the smoking.
6. Haha. I would MUCH rather drive. We'd be perfect on a road trip. We could even stop off somewhere and Bungee Jump!
7. No idea.
8. I can barely sit still long enough even to watch a good movie!
9. Me too. Barry Manilow...and even Karen Carpenter. I'll find my CD's for our car trip.
10. I think I range somewhere between Negative 1 and 11!
11. If it isn't food, I definitely will not eat it!
12. Me....and my shadow.

Have a great day!!!!

wow. That was a long comment!
We should totally do a road trip. And meet up at an amusement park that has a bungee jump and fried everything, especially Twinkies. Let's plan it for next summer! Kelly could be the voice of reason, you and I could be the Pinky Tuscadero twins, Lidna could secretly want to be as naughty as we are....hmm...what about Evie and Krippled Warrior? Wow...this could be a dream trip. Thelma and Louise, move on OVER@

That would probably be the most fun I would have for as long as I could possibly remember....not counting burning buildings of course. But burning buildings are a thing of the past now.
They have some of these things that are like bungee jumping where 2 people can go at once. It's more like flying and is still a complete free fall. The only difference is that the machine drops you when it is time to go. SO, you don't get that extra challenge of actually taking that first step. (which, by the way, is a real doozie!) I've never done that one but I've seen people do it before. It looks like fun. Of course we would HAVE to tape it!
Most places will tape it for you, but I think I paid something like $25.oo to get the guy to tape mine and he was talking through most of it. We'll bring our own camera.

I think we could convince Edie to do it....with a little bit (meaning a lot) of persuading. I don't know Lidna very well so I don't know about her. But I am 99.9999999% sure that Kelly will be the one taping. I would absolutely LOVE to see her do something like that!

I know they have one at Kings Dominion which is very close to me but they probably have them all over.

What fun that would be! A girl's weekend out! We could even blog about it before hand but not let anyone know where we were going until we got back......I wouldn't put it past Blase to show up.

Maybe it's just a fantasy, but maybe not.

It could be like the movie "Same Time Next Year" with Alan Alda...well, not exactly like that. haha,

You make me want to drop everything and go now!

I gotta go now. Gonna start packing my suitcase!

Have you noticed that my comments are almost always like individual posts.
Did I mention that I happen to ramble......
"the Best of Bread" is totally cracking me up. Thanks for that fun answer.

And yes, writing is high up on the creativity list.

#11-thanks for the honestly. I"m with ya.

Have a great weekend, Pam.

1. I have a hard time tearing myself away from the clearance racks too.

2. Yes writing is creative. I believe that God gave everyone a desire and talent to create something. It's part of how we were created in His Image.

5. I smoked for 24 years. Wrote a post a while back on how God quit for me. I would not do it again. Yes it's dirty and stinky and makes those little creases over your lips. Yuk!

6. Me too! If I couldn't have shotgun, I would rather drive than be in the back seat. I always feel like an outcast in the back.

I read your comments too and I want in on that road trip. I call shotgun! :D
Edie--I believe that shotgun is spoken for, but perhaps we could arm wrestle? tee hee!
